We are less than a week away and I’m getting the nerves and – SHIT! I could have done so much more. Today I need to go count all of my supplements and make sure I have enough to last the two weeks we are gone, if not, get them ordered today.
I need to hit the tanner one last time, get my nails done, get dog food…write up instructions for my son to take care of the dogs ???????? I followed up on my testosterone and progesterone prescriptions this morning and they had not even started on them!!!! So they said they would get it taken care of today and shipped overnight so I have them. And they are paying for the shipping since they messed up.
So I wanted to share this tweak that I found to actually make a Keto diet work properly. I used to think the I was still eating too many calories with my keto diet and that is why I was stalling. Truth of the matter is that protein intake matters as much as carbs do. So if you lead a sedentary lifestyle you would keep your protein to 45.5 for a 5ft female + 2.3 grams for each additional inch. Since I am a whopping 5′.5″ I shoot for 46. I also count my NET carbs and shoot for 20 net grams, THEN I also want my fat to be 85% (ISH) of my total calories for the day. I have my LoseIt app set for 1500 calories, but that is just because it needs a number. I don’t much care about hitting that number. Some days I go over – LIKE WAY over. One day last week I went 409 over. But then the next day I was below. I really only care that I keep my protein and carbs at or below their number. Fat is just to fill me up. Let me tell you – IT’S HARD to keep your protein down – way harder than you would think.
I am reading The Obesity Code by Dr Jason Fung. He’s so very smart and I am surprised at the information that he is bringing to light. He promises to only use studies on humans as points of reference. He writes about one study done on 5 rats. FIVE! That shows how a low fat high carb diet will reverse heart disease. We are not rats. I love this one story he tells:
“the Parable of the Cow”.
Two cows were discussing the latest research on lions. One says to the other that research shows that eating grass was bad for you and eating meat was good. So the cows start eating meat, and they die. One year later, two lions are discussing the latest research on cows. One says to the other that the latest research shows that eating meat kills you and eating grass is good. So, the two lions start eating grass, and they die.
What’s the moral of the story? We are not mice. We are not rats. We are not chimpanzees. We are not spider monkeys. We are human beings, and therefore we should only consider human studies. Animal studies are only needed if there is insufficient human data. However, I don’t think there is a paucity of human obesity or people trying to lose weight. If anything, we have too many studies, not too few. The trick is to have a framework on which to interpret these studies.
We need to focus our energy on topics of relevance. You don’t see professional basketball players spending hours practicing their sewing and needlework. I am concerned about obesity in humans, not obesity in mice. Therefore, I concern myself with human studies only.
I’m really enjoying the book so far – but I’m a nerd ????
The reason we become overweight is due to insulin, and protein causes an insulin reaction too. So protein matters just as much as carbs do. Once you get the protein down the total calories don’t seem to matter as much. Your going to be full and your not going to overeat.
My snacks have been macadamia nuts, pepperoni, cheese – real cheese…not Cheese FOOD. But I watch the pepperoni – it’s uber processed and my goal is to avoid processed food.
I am going to stay gluten free (MOSTLY) in Hawaii. I know the my joints do not feel good when I’m eating it and I do NOT want two shitty weeks with my hip hurting. SO Rice, fruits and veggies with some nuts and meat will be my diet. I may have a piece of cake here and there 🙂 I am packing some trail mix to bring. We have a couple outings that they provide us food. Ham sandwiches – I will see how I am feeling at that point, but like my husband pointed out, I have eaten the guts out of a sandwich many times in the past LOL
OK, You go have a great day 😉
